Born in MP’s Shahdol
General Vipin Rawat’s wife Madhulika was born in Sohagpur in Shahdol district in Madhya Pradesh. His father Kunwar Mrigendra Singh was active in politics and was also an MLA twice. Mrigendra Singh belongs to the Rewa gharana. He still has his palatial house in Shahdol where his family lives.

Madhulika’s early education took place in Shahdol itself. When she was in the fourth grade, she was sent to the famous Scindia Girls School in Gwalior to study. From here he completed his education till XIIth. After this he did his graduation in Psychology from Delhi University.

Madhulika was married to Bipin Rawat in the year 1986. At that time he was in the rank of Captain in the army. She was separated from her husband in the initial days after marriage. The reason for this was the military mind of Bipin Rawat. General Rawat’s posting was on the border in those days. They felt that keeping the family together would make them weak in carrying out their responsibilities. Therefore, he left the responsibility of raising the children on Madhulika and himself engaged in the service of the country.

General Rawat and Madhulika have two daughters. The elder daughter is Kritika Rawat, who is married in Mumbai. Younger daughter Tarini is still studying. She lived in Delhi with her parents.

Despite all the busyness and family responsibilities of her husband, Madhulika was very active in social activities. She was associated with many social organizations. She also actively participated in family events. Madhulika’s brother Yashvardhan Singh told in a conversation with NBT that General Vipin Rawat had come to Indore once after becoming the army chief. The reason for this was Madhulika’s promise to a girl child. Yashvardhan Singh’s daughter studied in Indore’s Daily College and was active in shooting. Madhulika had promised him that she would come to the school to meet him if he got the gold medal. When the girl got a gold medal in school, Madhulika insisted that she brought her husband along with her.
Madhulika was associated with the welfare of military families

Madhulika was the President of the Army Wives Welfare Association. While in this post, he did a lot of work for the better life of the widows of soldiers. She encouraged them to take training in tailoring, beautician, chocolate making, so that they could become financially independent.
