Lucknow professor gets emotional after remembering Guneet Monga who won two Oscars in 5 years

Lucknow: The Elephant Whispers by Guneet Monga and Kartiki Gonsalves created history by winning the Oscars in the Best Documentary Short Film category. While this news was encouraging for the whole country, it was more special for a professor from Lucknow. Professor Govind Pandey is the Dean of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow. He is remembering Guneet Monga as he flips through an album of old photographs. Please tell that this is Guneet Monga’s second Oscar award. Earlier he won an Oscar in the Documentary Short category for Period End of Sentence in 2018.

Professor Govind Pandey says that he is proud of his student. She was creative from the beginning in college and used to participate in every activity. He tells that he taught Guneet Monga in the year 2002 at Madhubala Institute of Communication and Electronic Media (MBICEM). This institute is affiliated to Indraprastha University. Guneet Monga was a mass communication graduate student there, where I taught her television journalism and also supervised her in short films at the institute.

Meerut is also included in the happiness of Oscar for The Elephant Whisperes…
Govind says that as a teacher, I pray to God that Guneet wins more awards and inspires more and more young filmmakers to make meaningful documentaries. His Oscar winning film is an example that animals and humans can live harmoniously in their natural habitats. Govind says that apart from Guneet, there are many other students of this institute who are doing good work in the film industry.

This documentary is an eye opener for biologists

Lucknow-based zoologist Dnyaneshwar Shukla says that The Elephant Whispers is a very informative documentary. It is unfortunate that our universities are producing hundreds of graduates, post graduates and doctorates in biology, but not a single biologist has done anything like this. This is an eye opener for us. We need to modify our curriculum so that such production is encouraged in more and more places. Our country is very rich in biodiversity and there has been a tradition of living with animals and worshiping them.
