Prime Minister Narendra Modi today participated in the India ASEAN Summit (Jakarta). During this, he said in his opening statement that the cooperation between India and ASEAN has entered the fourth decade. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that the Prime Minister held detailed discussions with the leaders of ASEAN partner countries. Its objective was to strengthen India-ASEAN relations and to consider how to take cooperation forward in the future. The Prime Minister once again reiterated that ASEAN is at the center of India’s Act East Policy.
The Prime Minister said that the 21st century is the century of Asia. In such a situation, it is necessary that the construction of the post-Covid world be based on rules and everyone’s efforts should be made for human welfare. We all have a common interest in the progress of a free and open Indo-Pacific and in amplifying the voices of the global South. He is confident that our talks will lead to new resolutions to enhance cooperation between India and the ASEAN region.
The Prime Minister said that history and geography connect India and ASEAN. At the same time, values and shared belief in regional unity, peace, prosperity and a multilateral world also bind us together.
