Shimla (Hindustan Times). Mild tremors of earthquake were felt in Chamba district on Sunday morning amid monsoon disaster in Himachal Pradesh. Its intensity was measured at 2.8 on the Richter scale.
According to the Meteorological Center Shimla, the tremors were felt at 10.2 in the morning. Its center was six kilometers deep from the ground. State Disaster Management Authority spokesman said that the tremors were of low intensity and there was no report of any casualty or damage.
It is worth mentioning that Himachal Pradesh comes under earthquake sensitive zones 4 and 5. In the year 1905, a major earthquake of magnitude 7.8 occurred in Himachal, in which there was a huge loss. During this 10 thousand people were killed. Many parts of the state including Chamba have been hit by earthquakes several times for the last several years.
In fact, this year the monsoon has caused huge devastation in Himachal Pradesh. During the last month, 376 people have lost their lives and 40 are missing in rain-related incidents during the monsoon season. 349 people have been injured. 141 people have died due to landslides and floods. While 235 people died in other rain-related incidents. During the monsoon season, 2445 houses, 306 shops and 5384 cattle sheds were completely destroyed. While 10504 houses suffered partial damage. In the last two months, landslides occurred at 156 places in the state and floods occurred at 66 places. A loss of Rs 8,604 crore has been estimated for the government departments of the state during the monsoon season.
