    H3N2 scare: H3N2 protocol is not followed in Patna, it is necessary to avoid crowd to avoid virus

    Patna: While cases of H3N2 influenza as well as H1N1 are being reported across the country, many people are still not following proper protocols despite a rise in flu cases in the state capital. Health experts advised people to self-isolate if they had symptoms such as cough, fever or runny nose and asked others to avoid public gathering. In other cities, according to doctors, cases are increasing rapidly and even children are being admitted to hospitals. We have to take proper precautions to prevent the virus from spreading and infecting a large population.

    Dr Diwakar Tejashwi said that people with comorbidities like diabetes, hypertension, kidney and cardiac problems have to avoid going out unnecessarily. Places like malls and cinema halls should be avoided for the time being. AIIMS-Patna director Dr Gopal Krishna Pal said they have reserved 30 beds, but no H3N2 case has been reported so far. He said that though the virus was not that dangerous, but people suffering from cancer, diabetes and blood pressure or any other health ailment could show severe symptoms.

    He also advised people to take precautions. He said that there is no need to panic, but hand hygiene, avoiding mass gathering, maintaining distance and wearing masks are of utmost importance for safety. On the other hand, District Magistrate (DM) Chandrashekhar Singh told the people on Wednesday not to panic about H3N2 but be alert. The district administration is alert and has asked the civil surgeon to ensure implementation of the health advisory issued by the government. All Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres, Referral Hospitals and Urban Health Centers have been asked to keep their Rapid Response Teams active.

    The DM said that people suffering from asthma, respiratory problems, pregnant women and children should be more careful against viral infections. He said that hospitals, medical colleges and health centers have already been asked to keep a tab on patients arriving at their outpatient departments. already admitted there to ascertain that no one had symptoms of influenza-like illness or severe respiratory infection. On finding such symptoms, the hospitals were asked to take random samples and send them to the Rajendra Memorial Research Institute for examination. However, the DM warned people against taking antibiotics without doctor’s advice. He said that there is a need for wide publicity regarding the precautions to be taken against this viral disease.
