Police have arrested six persons in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a 14-year-old girl in Dang district of Gujarat. Apart from this, three minors have been taken into custody. The rape incident took place about two months back, but it came to the fore recently when a relative of the girl saw a video of the crime on a social media platform. He said the alleged act was recorded by one of the accused on his mobile phone and later posted on social media.
Police Inspector NH Savaseta said that the girl was first raped by a minor friend in Ahwa taluka. He was on his way back home with her from a neighboring village after attending a wedding ceremony.

The boy’s eight other friends, who were waiting on the way, later forcibly took him to a nearby forest, where two of them allegedly raped him, the officer said. He said that out of the nine accused, six are in the age group of 20-22 years and three are minors. Also told that one of the accused recorded the video on his mobile phone and after seeing some people coming towards that side, all the friends ran away.

“Before leaving, they threatened the girl not to tell anyone about the incident,” the officer said. The girl remained silent for two months. Recently, one of her relatives saw a video of the gang rape and informed her family members. Later they went to the police and an FIR was registered on December 23.
All the nine accused were arrested on December 24, police said. The parents of the three minors secured bail, while six were sent to police remand by a court.

The charges against the accused are 376 (d) (a) (gang rape of a minor), 506 (2) (criminal intimidation), 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy) and 114 (presence of abettor of the offense at the time of the offence), the official said. The accused were also booked under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and the Information Technology Act. Investigation is on in the matter.
