New Delhi (EMS). Modi government approved the release of grant to provide LPG connections to women under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. New LPG connections under Ujjwala scheme were approved in the cabinet meeting. A subsidy of Rs 1,650 crore has been approved under the scheme. Let us tell you that in the first cabinet meeting, the Modi government had reduced the prices of LPG cylinders of 33 crore customers by Rs 200. At the same time, under the Ujjwala scheme, customers are getting Rs 400 per cylinder cheaper. Now approval has been given to give 75 lakh new LPG connections.
Ujjawala scheme was started in the year 2016 and it was started to provide relief to the poor women of the country from smoke. At present about 10 crore families have been linked with the scheme. Let us tell you that at present a subsidy of Rs 200 is being given to the beneficiaries of Ujjwala. In this way, the total discount available on the scheme has increased to Rs 400 per cylinder.
Under the Ujjwala scheme, the benefit of cheap cylinders is available only to those who live below the poverty line. To register under Ujjwala scheme, beneficiaries also have to upload their ration card. BPL card is available only to such families, which are below the poverty line. An Indian family whose annual income is less than Rs 27 thousand can be issued a Below Poverty Line card.
