DCP (Central) Sanjay Kumar Sain said that a team of Inspector Kuldeep Sharma and SI Ravi Shankar was formed to control the 78 gang operating in the area. Investigation revealed that on March 27, news was received that this gang was planning to commit an incident, for which the gang members were about to assemble at Road No. 20, Baljit Nagar. At around 4:45 pm, the police surrounded the gang members near the Gurudwara, when they ran away and entered the shop of a property dealer. Tried to close the shutter. Couldn’t close the shutters and the police asked the miscreants to move out. Gang leader Raman pointed the pistol towards the police team and pressed the trigger, but the bullet did not fire. Meanwhile, two miscreants came out, who waved knives. Started asking the police team to leave from there. The police instructed the miscreants to surrender by throwing weapons. But he was not ready to accept. Inspector Kuldeep Sharma fired from the service pistol. Everyone’s attention got diverted as soon as the bullet rang out.
The other members of the police team immediately overpowered the five miscreants amid a slight scuffle. A case has been registered at Patel Nagar police station for murderous assault, assault on a government servant, obstructing government work and under the Arms Act. During interrogation, Raman Mahana told that to earn name in the world of crime, 78 gang was formed with some boys of the area in 2014-15, which is the house number of 78 Mahana. They started committing incidents like robbery and snatching in the area. Apart from Mahana, the gang members included Ankit Kumar, Hitesh, Deepak and Tinkley.
