- Child shifted to ward after surgery
Dr. Nitish Agarwal of the neuro surgery department of the hospital told that the child was conscious when he was brought to the hospital. His wound was leaking cerebrospinal fluid (the clear fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord). Doctors removed the fan blade by performing a left frontal craniotomy (surgery to remove a section of bone from the skull to expose the brain).
carefully take out the fan blade
After surgery, the child was shifted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and then to the ward. He told that the blade had entered inside the child’s head. This was worrying, as it could have affected his ability to speak. Also, due to this there was a possibility of bleeding and hematoma (clot) in the brain. There was also a risk of infection due to foreign matter in the brain. He told that the fan blade was carefully taken out by drilling into the bone around the blade.
If such an accident happens, do not treat yourself.
Dr. Nitish told that in the case the relatives did a good job that they did not remove the fan blade by themselves. Had he done so, the blade would have inflicted more wounds on the brain. Also bleeding does not stop. In such a situation, the risk of the child’s life also increases. People should keep in mind that if any sharp object enters any part of the body in an accident, do not remove it yourself. Immediately go to the nearest hospital and get the treatment done by the doctor, so that the patient’s life can be saved by controlling infection and bleeding.
