An earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale was felt in Manipur’s Moirang this morning. The National Center for Seismology tweeted that a 3.5-magnitude quake was felt at 6.55 am on Thursday morning, they said, adding that the quake was felt about 52 km and 57 km south-southeast of Moirang. There was no damage of any kind due to this earthquake, which is good news.

People often think that why earthquakes happen, you may not know, but our earth is made up of four layers, inner core, outer core, mantle and crust. The upper mantle and crust, called the lithosphere, are divided into a 50-km-thick layer called the tectonic plate. These plates are constantly moving, but when it moves more rapidly, it produces a wave which we call earthquake. If these two plates do not collide, then there will be no earthquake.

What is meant by the epicenter and intensity of an earthquake

You may not know, but the place where the first waves emerge due to the collision of tectonic plates is called the epicenter of the earthquake. The tremor of the earthquake is highest at this place, as it reaches far and wide, its effect and intensity decreases. The greater the intensity of the earthquake, the greater the distance it will affect the earth. The greater the depth of the earthquake, the lower its intensity on the surface of the earth.

    how to protect from earthquake

For earthquake prevention, take training in disaster management from time to time.

Prepare a bag for the time of earthquake, in which radio, necessary documents, mobile charger, matches, candle, some money, medicine and slippers must be kept.

If a sudden earthquake is felt, then hold the furniture near you tightly with both hands, do not go in the lift at such time.

Keep away from any kind of trees, open spaces and electrical wires.

Do not go into the house after it collapses, landslide may occur due to earthquake.

If you are in a car, don’t go out with your head down and stay in it.

With all these precautions you will be able to protect yourself during an earthquake. If the earthquake comes with a magnitude of up to 5, then most of it does not cause any kind of damage, but if its intensity is more than this, then there can be many problems like collapse of houses, sliding of the ground. The problem of earthquakes is high in Japan, so houses are built there keeping this in mind.
