New Delhi (HS). People are losing their breath due to the suffocating pollution in Delhi. The situation in the capital is getting worse day by day. Long queues of patients are being seen in the respiratory disease departments of Delhi hospitals. Pollution has increased the problems of people suffering from asthma and respiratory diseases.
Dr. GC Khilnani, Chairman of the Department of Respiratory Diseases, PSRI Hospital, Delhi, says that pollution has not only increased the problems of asthma patients but the number of asthma patients is also increasing. He said that asthma patients have started coming to OPD daily.
He told that by doing Feno test of people with asthma, it is revealed that their respiratory tract has become swollen. FENO i.e. Fraction of Exhaled Nitric Oxide test is able to tell how much effort the patient has to exert in exhaling due to swelling in the respiratory tract. The levels of this test are increasing significantly among the people of Delhi. Along with this, pollution is also proving dangerous for children. It does not allow the lungs of children to develop. It has also become the cause of serious diseases.
Dr. Sujita, senior doctor of Jaipur Golden Hospital, says that pollution is affecting children more than adults. Children’s lungs have difficulties in developing. It’s affecting adults too, he said. Nowadays the atmosphere on every road is like a smoking zone. It affects not only those patients who have allergies or asthma but also normal people. He advised that people should try to avoid going out early in the morning or late in the evening, as pollution levels are very high at those times. N95 mask should be worn before leaving the house.
