But, Anupama Desai of Surat, who has been doing gardening in her house for the last 10 years, had a big desire to plant an apple plant in the house. At present, he has three apple plants in his house. So let’s learn from them what varieties of apples they have and how they planted it.
The Better India Talking to Anupama says, “As the climate of Gujarat was not conducive for apple growing. That’s why I never dared to put it on.” The apple tree needs a maximum temperature of 10 to 25 degrees. In this temperature, apple trees also give good fruits. Anupama says that if this plant is planted in Surat during winters or rains, then it is easily planted. But there is no guarantee that it will bear fruit. Yes, you will definitely have a beautiful bonsai plant in your garden. You can plant this bonsai from cuttings or seeds.
How to plant apple plant from seed?
She explains, “It takes five to six years for a seed plant to grow and bear fruit. At the same time, it is difficult to bear fruit in hot places. If the temperature is right, then big apples like the market may not come, but even the plants planted in the house can bear fruit.
To plant it from seed, you can coat apple seeds with Trichoderma powder and plant them in pots. This will help the seed to germinate.
- You can also germinate its seeds by keeping them in the refrigerator.
- Remove all the apple seeds and keep them in the refrigerator for about three weeks.
- After three weeks or months, take out the seed and keep it immersed in water for five-six hours. Note, do not use seeds that are floating.
- Now keep the seeds in a wet towel for about a week, keeping them away from the sun and stuffed in a box.
- You will see, after a week the seeds will start sprouting. Now it’s time to plant it in a pot.
- You can use a potting mix consisting of 50% normal soil, 50% cocopeat and vermicompost.
- You plant the seeds one by one in the pot and put some soil and water on top.
- Keep it out of strong sunlight, but it also needs to get three to four hours of sunlight.
- After about 10 days, you will see the plant emerge from your seed.
- Give the plants three to four hours of sunlight and keep watering regularly. Over watering will rot its roots, so water only as needed.
- If the maximum temperature of 20 to 22 degrees is met, then this plant will start giving fruits in about five years.
How to plant an apple plant in the summer of Gujarat
You must be wondering how Anupama planted an apple plant in the hot climate of Surat and will it bear fruit? So answering this, Anupama told that she has planted an apple tree named HRMN 99 at home. This apple variety has been developed by Hariman Sharma, a farmer from Himachal. It can grow even in 40 to 44 degree heat and can bear fruit. Hariman Sharma has also received the National Award for this discovery.

Anupama said, “Ever since I read about this new variety, I started searching for this plant. In May this year, I got this plant from a nursery in Surat. Which I put in a big grow bag.”
He has brought this plant from nursery in a pot containing potting mix consisting of 50% normal soil, 50% cocopeat and vermi compost. Since it can grow in warm areas, keep it in normal sunlight. At the same time, to prevent any kind of insect etc., she regularly sprays neem oil. He says that if the HRMN apple plant is planted on the ground, then the fruits start coming in about two years. At the same time, it can take five years for a potted plant to bear fruit.

In the year 2017-2018, HRMN 99 apple variety was sent to every part of the country so that more and more people could cultivate it and apple could be grown in hot regions also.
