New Delhi (EMS). One thing you must have noticed is that whenever a patient goes to the hospital, the first thing the doctor sees is his tongue. But have you ever wondered why doctors stick out their tongues at everyone? Regarding this, the doctor said that it is true that before treating the patient, the doctor looks at his tongue. Because changes in the tongue indicate many serious diseases. Symptoms of many diseases like cancer and diabetes can be hidden in these colors.
Doctors say that people sometimes feel that something like hair or fur is stuck on their tongue. It may also be white, black or brown in appearance. If this is the case with a person, then it is not good. Supposedly, this happens when proteins turn the natural bumps on the tongue into striated hairlines. Bacteria can get trapped in it which can be harmful to health.
According to the doctor, the color of the tongue of some people starts turning black. This happens only if you have taken antacid tablets. Antacids contain bismuth which gets trapped in the upper layer of the tongue along with spit. This is usually not a serious or worrying condition and often resolves with good oral hygiene. However, some diabetic patients may have the problem of blackening of the tongue. Doctors say that when the color of the tongue changes from pink to scarlet, it can be a cause for concern. This could be Kawasaki disease. Apart from this, this can also happen due to deficiency of Vitamin 3. The tongue also becomes red in Kawasaki disease in children. Apart from this, in case of scarlet fever the color of the tongue may become scarlet.
Doctors say that burning sensation in the tongue is also not considered good in medical terms. However, in most people it occurs due to acidity, but sometimes due to neurological disorders, the tongue starts burning. Therefore this problem should not be ignored.
According to the doctor, having a wound on the tongue is also not considered good. It is seen in many people that a wound appears on the tongue, which does not heal for many days. In this situation, food and water are not consumed. If this happens to anyone, then a doctor should be contacted immediately. Actually, these signs can also be of cancer.
According to the doctor, white spots or coating-like texture on the tongue indicates yeast infection. However, these changes may be seen more in children and the elderly. Apart from this, white coating on the tongue can also be due to leukoplakia. This problem is seen more in those who consume tobacco. According to experts, if there is a slight white coating on the tongue, then it is a sign of the tongue being healthy.
