If you are fond of DIY and also like to do gardening, then you can fulfill these two hobbies together. By the way, people who are fond of gardening grow plants in old cans, buckets and tubs, but just imagine if a vertical garden can be prepared by converting an empty and waste plastic bottle into a pot?

This method is not only less expensive but also environment friendly. Most of us throw cold drinks or water bottles in the dustbin after use, which further contaminates our landfills. However, people who are aware of the environment collect it and give it for recycle. But if you do gardening, then such bottles can be of use to you.

Chaudhary Ram Karan, who does terrace gardening in Lucknow, is growing vegetables like brinjal, tomato and capsicum in plastic bottles. Ram Karan The Better India Told to, “For those who are not able to do gardening due to lack of space, this method is perfect for them. On the other hand, if you have never done gardening, you can start it with a waste bottle of cold drink instead of a pot. With this you can avoid spending money on buying pots.

So let’s know in which ways you can convert these bottles into planters.

    1. Make a planter by cutting the bottom of the bottle

This is the easiest way to make a planter out of plastic bottles. For this you take a one or two liter bottle of water or cold drink. Leave the lid on the bottle. Now turn it upside down and cut off the bottom part. Punch three or four drainage holes in the bottle cap and your planter is ready.

You can tie it with the help of a rope and hang it in a well-lit place. Similarly, you can place three or four identical bottles in a vertical way. After the planter is ready, you can add potting mix to it and plant it.

Ram Karan says that if you are using a two liter bottle, then you can easily grow plants like capsicum, tomato, brinjal, chilli in it.

    2. Cut the bottle into two parts and make two planters

To make two small planters from one bottle, cut the bottle into two parts from the middle. Make a planter by turning the top part upside down. You have to make a hole in the lid for drainage. At the same time, make a hole around the other part and you can hang it anywhere by tying a rope in it. This way you can make two planters from the same bottle.

The planter prepared this way is perfect for planting small succulent or spider plants. At the same time, you can easily grow coriander and mint in it.

    3. Railing Planter

You can also make a railing planter using a two liter bottle, in which you can comfortably grow flowering plants like portulaca and petunia.
