New Delhi (EMS). In view of the increasing demand for electric vehicles in India, preparations are now being made to build an electric highway on the lines of Sweden. The government is making every effort to promote the electric sector. As a result, today there has been tremendous demand for electric vehicles in the country. Apart from FAME-2 subsidy, the government is working towards building highways for electric vehicles. With the construction of an electric highway, EV users will be free from the worry of range and in future people will also plan long trips with EVs.
Let us tell you that in July last year, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has made a new announcement that the government is considering a plan to build an electric highway between Delhi and Mumbai. He has also urged heavy vehicle owners to start using ethanol, methanol as well as green hydrogen. Electric highways are such roads on which electric vehicles get every facility that EV users need while traveling. The electric highway includes 24-hour emergency facility, mechanics for EV repairing, charging stations at various locations, battery swapping stations, etc.
In future, electric corridor can be built in the country, in which electricity is provided through overhead power line, which can be charged with the help of a device. Countries like Germany started testing trolley-like vehicles in 2012 itself. At the same time, it can be tested in a separate lane for the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway to be built in India. While giving information about this highway, Gadkari had said that a separate electric highway line will be built on the 1,300 km long Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, where trucks and buses can go at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour. Whereas Gadkari had said in 2016 itself that e-highways can be built in India like Sweden.
The electric highway will prove to be completely eco-friendly, because electric vehicles are less harmful to the environment than vehicles running on diesel-petrol. Apart from this, its biggest advantage will be that it can lead to a huge reduction in the expenses incurred on vehicle movement. According to figures given in a report, e-highway will reduce logistics costs by 70 percent. If the cost of transportation comes down then the prices of goods sold in India may come down.
