    Crime against women increased in Bihar, Nitish government surprised after knowing the percentage, know the whole thing

    Patna: According to the Bihar Economic Survey report, the number of registered and disposed of cases related to crimes committed against women has increased by 13.05% and 19.7% respectively in 2021-22 as compared to the previous year. Officials said many women are coming forward to register related cases under the government’s one-stop center scheme. The scheme was launched in April 2016 in all 38 districts to provide assistance to women affected by violence in both private and public places. Many types of services can be provided to women including police, medical, legal aid.

    According to the data, out of the total 7,292 cases registered, 6,301 cases related to crimes against women were settled. Among all cases in 2021-22, registration is highest for domestic violence with 4,889, followed by dowry harassment (787), sexual harassment (116), second marriage (81), mobile/cyber related crimes (59), child marriage (24), sexual harassment at workplace (22), human trafficking (12), dowry death (5) and others (1,297). In 2021-22, 86% of the registered cases were disposed off.

    ‘Conscious of rights’

    Officials said that earlier girls and women were unaware of their rights due to lack of information, but to save them from atrocities and to overcome this challenge, the state government launched an awareness campaign across the state through workshops, seminars, seminars. and conducted street plays on child marriage, dowry harassment, sexual harassment at workplace and female foeticide.

    Pramila Kumari, in-charge of Patna Women’s Helpline, said that after the introduction of 112 emergency service, the reporting system of Bihar Police has been strengthened. Women are now not only aware about their rights but are also taking help of all possible means to reach the police in case of any crime against them. The system is no longer one-way, and there is feedback in the system. 112 emergency service and Sakhi centers are good for women and provide them support.
