Several opposition leaders on Sunday expressed concern over the brief hack of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Twitter account, saying it exposed lapses in cyber security. He said that cyber security is as important as border and internal security. He asked if the Aadhaar data of all Indians is secure.
Congress spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill said, “Hacking of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Twitter handle is a matter of great concern. It exposes loopholes in cyber security. Policy makers, along with advancements in technology and credibility, must realize that cyber security is as important as border and internal security.
Shiv Sena MP raised the issue
Priyanka Chaturvedi, deputy leader of Shiv Sena in Rajya Sabha said, “The Prime Minister’s account was hacked for a while. The level of cyber security is clearly exposed. Another Congress spokesperson Shama Mohammad said, ‘PM Modi’s Twitter handle was hacked last night. This is a major security lapse. “If the government cannot adequately secure the Prime Minister’s account, then how is it protecting the biometric Aadhaar data of crores of Indians,” he said.
Congress leader had fun
Indian Youth Congress President BV Srinivas reacted with a quip to the tweet related to the hacking. He said, ‘Good morning Modi ji, Sab changa si?’ Srinivas tweeted in response to a tweet which claimed that India has officially legalized bitcoin. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Twitter handle was briefly hacked on Sunday, prompting a tweet that India has “officially legalized bitcoin”.
Secured account instantly
Later, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that the account was immediately secured after the matter was taken up with Twitter. The PMO said, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Twitter handle was hacked for a while. The matter was taken up with Twitter and the account was immediately secured. Any tweets shared while the account has been hacked for some time should be ignored.
