Congress has questioned the decision of the central government to lift the ban on the Italian company Leonardo SpA associated with AgustaWestland. Congress leader Gaurav Vallabh said in a press conference that Prime Minister Modi had just gone to Rome, where he met the Prime Minister of Italy at the G-20 summit and in this meeting, Augusta / Finmeccanica was discussed. Only after that it was decided to remove the ban. On this issue, Rahul Gandhi has tweeted saying that Agusta was corrupt earlier but has been washed away in the BJP laundry.
Congress spokesperson Gaurav Vallabh said that Prime Minister Modi and his government lifted the ban on Leonardo SpA, formerly known as Finmeccanica (parent company of AgustaWestland). Mysteriously removed from the ‘black list’ by Prime Minister Modi and his government. Gaurav claimed that the Modi government had also approved the investment of AgustaWestland through the Foreign Investment Promotion Board. Along with this, the government has also allowed Agusta to come in the bid for the purchase of 100 helicopters for the Navy. Vallabh further said that the Modi government is hiding this conspiracy with the help of lies.
Vallabh further said that in February 2010, the UPA government had made a deal with AgustaWestland for Rs 3,526 crore for the purchase of 12 helicopters. When the scam case came to light in February 2013, the investigation was handed over to the CBI. He further said that by then Rs 1,620 crore had been paid to AgustaWestland and 3 helicopters had already arrived. But later the government canceled this deal and filed a case against Augusta in Italy too. He claimed that instead of Rs 1,620 crore, the UPA government recovered Rs 2,068 crore. Along with this, three helicopters worth Rs 886.50 crore were also seized.

He said that on February 15, 2013, the UPA government had started the process of blacklisting AgustaWestland. But in July 2014, the Modi government ordered its removal from the black list. The Congress also asked many questions to the Modi government regarding this issue –
- What is the ‘secret deal’ between the Modi government and Agusta/Finmecanica?
- Do Modi and his government find it right to deal with a ‘corrupt and fake company’ now?
- Does this mean that the bogus quagmire of corruption created before the 2019 elections is being buried silently like 2G spectrum allocation?
- Now what will happen to the investigation against Agusta started by the Congress government?
- What will happen to the pending arbitration against Agusta/Finmeccanica? Will this result in loss of revenue? Because the UPA government had recovered Rs 2,954 crore (2068 +886.50) instead of Rs 1,620 crore.
