Recently, the World Kick Boxing Championship was played in Egypt. There, Indian players made the nation proud with their stellar performances. Team India won a total of 26 medals in this championship, including 11 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze medals. Bandipora, who is called ‘Bruce Lee of Jammu and Kashmir’ in this boxing championship Tajamul Islam Won the gold medal for the second time.
Earlier in 2016, at the age of 9, she became the first Indian player to win gold in the sub-junior category.
How did Tajamul become the Bruce Lee of Jammu and Kashmir?
This journey of Tajamul started in the year 2014. Once, Tajamul was passing near the stadium with her father. Some boys and girls were seen training there. She told her father that she also wanted to try her hand at the sport. Tajamul’s father was a driver and earned up to Rs 10,000 a month to support the family.
His financial condition was not at all such that he could bear any extra expenses, but in front of the daughter’s dreams, the tightness had to kneel. Tajamul’s father gave him permission to play and move forward and from here began Tajamul’s journey. Today that one decision of a father to let his daughter move forward has brought a medal to the country. Tajamul’s elder brother and two sisters also do kick boxing.
8 year old Tajamul and 13 year old challenge
In the year 2015, 8-year-old Tajamul participated in the national level kick boxing competition. In that match, he won the gold medal by defeating a 13-year-old boxer. She has performed brilliantly in many other district, state, national and international competitions.
Tajamul did his schooling from the Army’s Goodwill School. He was honored by the then Army Chief Dalbir Singh Suhag himself, upon his return to India, when he won the gold medal after defeating an American rival at Andrea, Italy. At that time, Army Chief Singh and the then Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti had praised the little daughter of Kashmir, saying that this victory would inspire the children of the Valley.

Tajamul tweeted on his success in Egypt, writing, “It was really a proud moment for me, when I got the gold medal again at the World Kick Boxing Championships in Egypt. Now I am a 2 time world kick boxing champion.”
On this victory, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha shared Tajamul’s photo and wrote, ‘Many congratulations to Tajamul Islam of Bandipora for creating history in Egypt by winning the gold medal in the World Kick Boxing Championship 2021. Our young kick boxing champion has done exceptionally well over the years.
After the victory, Tajamul gave a message in an interview saying, “Don’t ask girls to stay hidden, they can do a better job than boys. Let your children know in sports, coach your students and parents should fully support their children. Playing will keep your kids fit both mentally and physically.”
Tajamul also wants to play for India in Olympics and win gold medal.
