Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board took the decision
New Delhi (EMS). Are you also going on the Amarnath Yatra which is going to start from 1st July this year? Then this news is useful for you… Actually, you cannot eat cold drinks, crunchy snacks, deep fried and fast food items, heavy sweets like jalebi and halwa, and puris and chole bhature during Amarnath pilgrimage. In its health advisory for the annual yatra issued by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, a series of food items have been banned that could prove harmful to the health of pilgrims on the arduous journey. For this, a detailed food menu has been prepared, which will be applicable to langar organizations, food stalls, shops and other establishments coming up in the yatra area to serve and sell food to pilgrims and service providers.
The move has been taken to keep the pilgrims away from ‘unhealthy’ food items on the challenging 14 km long trek, which passes through very high altitude and steep hilly terrain. Non-vegetarian food, alcohol, tobacco, gutkha, pan masala, smoking and other intoxicants have been banned for religious reasons in the new food menu of Amarnath Yatra 2023.
It also bans cold drinks, but pilgrims are allowed to drink herbal tea, coffee, low-fat milk, fruit juices, lemon squash and vegetable soup. Heavy pulav/fried rice has been banned.
But along with normal rice, you can eat light food like roasted gram, poha, uttapam, idli as well as normal dal-roti and chocolate. Kheer, oats, dry fruits, honey can be consumed but heavy fast food like chickpeas, puris, pizza, burger, dosa, chowmein as well as other fried foods are prohibited on the way to Amarnath holy cave Are. All confectionary items like halwa, jalebi, gulab jamun, laddu, khova barfi and rasgulla have also been banned from the menu. Crunchy snacks high in fat, chips, matti, salty mixture, pakodas, samosas, fried dry fruits and other deep fried items have also been banned.
