Substandard coal supply by stealing high quality coal
According to the ADG, coal imported from abroad is supplied to many states of the country from the Kandla port of Gujarat. 500 to 600 trucks going to the north Indian states of Jammu, Delhi, Punjab and Haryana pass through the Rajasthan border daily. Out of these, the drivers of about 150 trucks were in contact with coal thief mafias. These drivers used to stop the truck for some time at the illegal godown on the highway side. During this time the high quality coal filled in the track was stolen and the truck was sealed back by filling the inferior quality coal. The coal thieves gang came to light when the investigation was started after people from outside states complained of getting poor quality coal.30 lakh coal stolen from a truck
Coal imported from abroad is of very high quality. Coal worth about one crore rupees is filled in a truck. The members of the thief gang used to break into more than 100 trucks every day. Stealing about 30 per cent coal from a truck, they used to fill the same quantity with poor quality coal. Later the truck was sealed back. The cost of 30 per cent coal theft is around Rs 30 lakh. Filling of poor quality coal used to spoil the high quality coal filled in the truck.
Coal was used in cement and power generation.
This coal supplied from Kandla port was used for cement and power generation. Since the coal thieves mixed 30 percent of poor quality coal with good quality coal, all the coal used to get spoiled. This had a direct impact on cement and power generation. In such a situation, the factory owners lodged a complaint with the Rajasthan Police suspecting that the coal mafia might be mixing low quality coal with high quality coal. After this, special teams of Rajasthan Police found out the route of trucks passing through Gujarat and kept a special watch on the trucks, then this gang came to know. This action was taken in Jalore, Barmer, Pali, Jodhpur Commissionerate and Jodhpur Rural areas. Report – Ramswaroop Lamrod
