The impact of continuous development in technology can also be clearly seen on election operations. The Election Commission of India is using new technologies and information technology to make elections more accessible, fair and inclusive. To strengthen democracy, it is important for every citizen to be aware and alert. Keeping this in mind, in many past elections, technology-based systems have been developed and made a part of the election process. Now the Commission is directly connecting citizens with the election process by developing various mobile apps. With this new initiative of the Commission, voters have become more empowered and also active participants in the electoral system. Let us know about some major mobile apps which are increasing voter participation in the election process in today’s era.
voter helpline app
Through the Voter Helpline App, voters can easily find their assembly, polling booth and simple serial number in the voter list by entering their Voter Identity Card (EPIC) number. If EPIC number is not known then voters can search their name in the voter list by filling their details like name, relative name, age, gender and assembly constituency information. If the voter’s mobile number is registered in the voter list then the voter can also download his e-EPIC. In case the mobile number is not registered, one can also download e-Epic by applying in Form-8 for necessary correction. Through this app, voters can also apply for addition, deletion, transfer or amendment of their name.
Through the Voter Helpline App, voters can get information about the candidates of their constituency and any other area so that the voters can be aware of whom they are going to elect before casting their vote. The affidavit submitted by the candidate can also be seen in it. Through this, official information about assembly wise results can also be seen on the counting day. Election related complaints can also be made through this app. Videos related to the operation of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) are also uploaded in it for voter awareness.
C-Vigil App
Through this app, a common citizen can directly send photographs and videos of irregularities occurring during the election process to the Election Commission. During elections, if any citizen sees that the Model Code of Conduct is being violated, then he can send his complaint on this app. Complainants can directly download the C-Vigil application on their phones and upload photos or videos of the incident. Distribution of money or gifts to woo voters, giving inflammatory speeches, putting up banners and posters without permission, distribution of liquor, holding meetings without permission, transportation of unauthorized material, meetings after the end of campaign time, campaigning within 200 meters of the polling station. Complaints about such matters can be made through this app.
Saksham Mobile App
An attempt has been made to solve the election related problems of disabled voters through this app. The Commission has developed a one stop means for the disabled in the form of Saksham App. Voters with disabilities can avail of various facilities provided by the Election Commission of India to participate in the electoral process. This app can be downloaded from Google Play Store and Apple Store. The design, layout, interface and features have been improved to make the app user-friendly. It also has features like screen reader, text to speech service, visibility enhancement, color adjustment. The app is designed as a two-way interactive platform.
The pick and drop facility can be availed through the Saksham app right from the registration process till the day of voting. Apart from this, many other facilities like request for marking as Divyangjan, correction, authentication, wheel chair, assistance, know your polling station, booth locator, know your candidates, lodge complaints etc. are also available in this app.
Suvidha Candidate App
Through this app, candidates get the facility to fill their nomination form and affidavit online for election. After online application, slot can be booked and physical verification and prescribed fee can be paid on the scheduled date. Not only this, this app also has the facility for candidates to apply online for permission for rally, meeting etc.
voter turn out app
By using this mobile app, on the day of voting, common citizens can see assembly-wise voting information from moment to moment. Through this app, citizens of any corner of the state can know the updated status of voter turn out in both the phases. On the day of polling, the presiding officers of the polling stations will update the voting information at their centers in the IP app every two hours.
Know Your Candidate (KYC) App
Through this app, voters can get information about the candidates contesting the elections. Voters can get information about education, property, criminal records etc. of the candidates contesting from their assembly constituency. This app helps voters to select the right candidate for election.
Election Seizure Management System (ESMS) App
Seizure proceedings being conducted by more than 1600 static and flying squads of the state are uploaded on this app. Officials of Police Department, Income Tax Department, GST Department update every seizure on this app. With this, the Election Commission gets information about the actions being taken by the static and flying parties and necessary action is taken on them.
