A police constable has been booked for sexually abusing a 26-year-old rape victim in Uttar Pradesh. The accused constable, who was recently transferred to Ballia district, is married and has a child. The rape victim (a paramedic) had filed a complaint in 2019 against another person under IPC sections of rape and forced conversion.

The accused constable had then approached her on the pretext of helping her, and had allegedly raped her at gunpoint while being alone in the house in December 2020. According to the police complaint, the victim had fallen in love with the first man, and the man allegedly raped her on the pretext of marriage. After the woman came to know of her true identity, he lodged an FIR and said that he was forcing her to change her religion.

During investigation, the accused constable approached him and said that he could help him. The woman claimed that she tried to approach the authorities concerned but the accused constable persuaded her not to lodge any complaint with the promise of marriage. She started living with him until she came to know that the constable was married and had a child in Bareilly. When he spoke to her, he threatened her with dire consequences.
Police started investigation
Circle officer of the area said that we have received a written complaint from a woman, who is a rape victim. She said that a police constable had raped her. An FIR has been registered against the accused constable under sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 504 (intentional insult) of the IPC, and we have shared more information with the authorities where he is currently posted. A departmental inquiry has also been ordered against the accused. Now we will record the statement of the rape victim and send her for medical examination.
