The Governor informed that Singh indicated during the meeting that all efforts were being made to establish smooth coordination with the West Bengal Police.
Dhankhar tweeted, “BSF Director General Pankaj Kumar Singh met the Governor of West Bengal Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar in New Delhi today and indicated that all efforts are being made for smooth coordination with West Bengal Police and Mamata Banerjee (Chief Minister). So that the focus can be on border security and legal role.
The Governor said that he has already asked state Chief Secretary HK Dwivedi and Home Secretary BP Gopalika to take immediate steps to establish cooperative coordination between BSF and West Bengal Police in this matter.
Significantly, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has repeatedly rejected the Centre’s decision to increase the jurisdiction of the BSF to 50 km from the existing 15 km radius of the border.
In a letter to Trinamool Congress MP and spokesperson Sukhendu Shekhar Roy on Monday, the governor said it is essential in a federal system that all agencies – both at the Center and in the states – work together and remain united.
In a letter to Trinamool Congress Chief Whip Roy in Rajya Sabha, Dhankhar said, “On the issue of national security, there is a need to give priority to national interest and security by ignoring party divisions.”
