Assembly elections will not be postponed amid Corona epidemic, Corona infected patients will get the facility to vote from home

The Election Commission has taken important decisions regarding the upcoming assembly elections amid the Corona epidemic. The Election Commission said in a press conference on Thursday that all political parties are in favor of holding elections on time, following the COVID-19 norms. Meaning now the elections will be held at their own time. However, political parties will have to wait till January 5 for the dates of the elections. The number of new voters in the age group of 18 to 19 years is three times more than in the last election, the Election Commission said. Also, the proportion of females has increased from 839 to 868.

Live webcasting facility will be available at 1 lakh polling stations

Talking about the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said that the final voter list will be released on January 5, 2022. VVPATs will be installed at all polling stations in Uttar Pradesh. Live webcasting facility will be available at around 1 lakh polling stations to ensure transparency in the election process. He said that keeping in view the Covid, we have reduced the number of voters per booth from 1,500 to 1,200. The number of polling stations in UP has increased by 11,000. Voting will be held from 8 am to 6 pm on the date of polling during the assembly elections.

Regarding the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, Chandra said that the employees posted at polling stations across the state will be fully vaccinated. Covid-19 patients can vote from home. We will go to his house and take voting. On the situation of Corona, the commission said that we have discussed this issue with the Health Secretary. When the election is announced, we will issue specific instructions on this issue keeping in view the situation. On illegal distribution in elections, the commission said that the distribution of free gifts should be stopped immediately and the Election Commission is keeping a close watch on the matter.
