Arunachal Pradesh Advocate General Nilay Dutta died of a heart attack late Saturday night in Coorg, Karnataka. He was 68 years old. A close friend of Nilay Dutta said, “The eminent lawyer had gone to Coorg on Wednesday to celebrate his 46th wedding anniversary. He suffered a heart attack around 2.30 pm on Saturday at the resort where he was staying with his family and died before reaching the hospital.
Funeral will be done by this evening
His family told that his last rites will be performed in Bengaluru by this evening, as his body cannot be brought to his home state Assam for three days due to the Covid-19 protocol in Karnataka. On Friday and Saturday, Dutta took to Twitter to post several pictures from her wedding anniversary celebrations with family and close friends. He was one of the most prominent and eminent legal figures of Assam and the Northeast. He has solved many cases in the Supreme Court. Datta studied at St. Stephen’s College in Delhi and later joined the Naxalite movement, for which he was arrested and sent to jail.

Arunachal CM expressed grief by tweeting
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu tweeted, “With his passing away we have lost a great legal scholar from the Northeast. My condolences to his family and pray to God for his spiritual peace.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that his state has lost a talented lawyer who contributed in many fields including sports administration.
