In protest against the alleged political interference, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan this week wrote to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and decided to resign as the Chancellor of Universities. Governor Arif Mohammad Khan said that he does not want any dispute with the government… he can no longer work as chancellor. He said in one of his statements that I told Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan that I am not coming.
Governor is angry with the government
It is being said that the reasons for which Governor Khan took this step include the Vice Chancellor of Kannur University, Prof. The reappointment of Gopinath Raveendran is also included. Another issue was the amendment to the Universities Act with regard to the appointment of the Appellate Authority of the University, which has deprived the Governor of some of his powers. The governor is angry with the government on these issues. Registering his protest, Arif Mohammad Khan had canceled his program at the Agricultural University. The governor had planned to attend the program at the university on December 9 and go to Delhi soon thereafter.

Governor Arif Mohammad Khan said that as far as I am concerned, I have already written to the Chief Minister, please take over the post of Chancellor…It is very easy. It is not a constitutional post…It is a duty provided by the Act of the University….amend the Act. It is being said that Chief Secretary VP Joy and Minister KN Bal Gopal tried to resolve the issue by talking to the Governor personally but the meeting did not yield any result. The Governor, who left for Delhi soon after the meeting, will return to the state on December 17.
