Mumbai (EMS). The Narcotics Control Bureau has busted a major drug smuggling gang in South Mumbai. The NCB team has seized 20 kgs of Mephredone (MD), worth Rs 50 crores. In this campaign, three people including a woman have been arrested in Dongri. NCB Mumbai Zonal Director Amit Ghawate told the media that a large amount of gold ornaments and cash deposited as financial proceeds of sale of drugs have also been seized. According to NCB officers, this action has been taken on the basis of secret information.
The gang was involved in smuggling MD in large quantities and was distributing it in various parts of Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region including Navi Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Palghar areas. NCB on Friday arrested N, a resident of Dongri. Khan was caught. The NCB soon arrested Khan’s associate A.K. Ali was found. The team arrested Ali with 3 kg MD. During the raid and search operation at Khan’s house, 2 kg of MD and was seized. Khan reveals about a female operative, AF Shaikh, who supplied him with the narcotics. The NCB also raided Shaikh’s house from where they seized 15 kg MD, Rs 1.10 crore in cash and around 187 grams of gold ornaments. After giving evasive answers, the woman finally admitted that the cash and gold were proceeds from the sale of drugs.
The NCB said that the accused also disclosed that they were partners in illegal drug trade for the last about 7 to 10 years. The accused woman was dealing in drugs, she had spread her supply network to many other cities. The NCB had earlier booked several members of this syndicate and is now on the lookout for the rest of the associates and other illegal assets created out of drug money.
