Why this museum was built – Why Albert Hall Museum Built
Located 10 minutes away from Hawa Mahal, this museum is also called Government Central Museum. The Albert Hall was established in the year 1876 during the visit of Prince of Wales, Albert Edward to Jaipur on 6th February. The building is named after him. But the dilemma of how to use this hall remained a lot during that time. Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh initially wanted the museum building to be a town hall. Some suggested its use for cultural or educational purposes.
But Dr. Thomas Hobbin Hendley suggested encouraging local artisans to show their craftsmanship here. The then Maharaja of Jaipur, Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh II liked his idea and decided to make it a museum in 1880 showcasing the artwork of local craftsmen of Jaipur. The museum was finally opened to the public in 1887. So that’s why hotels in Manali and Shimla are getting expensive, you should also know once before booking
