If you are abroad, to apply for a temporary passport, you will need to contact your country’s embassy or consulate abroad. For example, if you are a US citizen, and you have lost your passport in France, you will need to go to the United States embassy in Paris. Make a call to the embassy ahead of time and make an appointment, as well as get information about what documents they will need. Before applying for a temporary passport, you need to file a police report for a lost/stolen passport. You will need this report to present to the Embassy with your application.
Required documents:
- One passport size photograph (surface against white background)
- Your ID or Driving License
- Proof of your citizenship, such as a photocopy of a lost passport (if available) or your birth certificate
- Your travel ticket (airplane, train, bus, etc.)
