The latest travel order has come into effect from today, and will include a ban on the movement of private vehicles in Shillong city, while the odd-even system will be implemented in Shillong for vehicular movement.
What does the Chief Minister have to say?
Referring to this, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that the decision has been taken after reviewing the COVID-19 situation in the northeastern state and the rise of Omicron cases in different parts of the country. He further said that it is extremely important to implement these restrictions, although the state has not reported any Omicron case so far.
What is and is necessary
He also said that apart from double vaccination, all tourists coming from outside the state will have to show a negative report of the COVID-19 RT-PCR test done within 72 hours. If they fail to do so, they will have to undergo a COVID test at the entry point of Meghalaya. He also informed that night curfew has been imposed in Shillong city and all other districts from 10 pm onwards.
Who has been given exemption –
Those exempted from the test on entry must have a valid Final Certificate of Vaccination (both doses) or a negative RT-PCR report issued by an accredited laboratory 72 hours prior to their arrival. Government officials, technical staff, logistics experts who are involved in health and family welfare, related to power department, telecommunications and other agencies providing essential services to the state, such as the home (political) department, etc., instead of 72 hours a day. Can show RT-PCR negative certificate or RAT negative certificate from 48 hours ago. However, if such persons do not have any negative certificates, they will be tested by RAT on entry. All persons exempted from the test at the entry point are also exempted from quarantine, but they will have to strictly follow the protocol.
