Morning walk is necessary for people who have undergone bypass surgery, it will bring good sleep

London. If people who have undergone heart bypass surgery want to sleep well at night, then they should walk for half an hour in the morning. This has been said in a study. Study author Hadi Atef from Cairo University in Egypt said that many patients develop sleep problems after heart bypass surgery.

“After this condition persists for more than six months, the condition of the heart worsens and the patient is at increased risk of re-surgery,” he said. Therefore, it is very important to find ways to improve sleep after bypass surgery.

This study examined the effects of exercise on both sleep and performance. In this, 80 patients aged 45 to 65 years were included who had sleep problems and their functionality after six weeks of heart bypass surgery.

Patients were randomly assigned to two exercise groups: aerobic exercise and resistance exercise.

Both groups performed 30 exercise sessions in the morning over a 10-week period.

During the aerobic exercise session, participants walked on a treadmill for 30–45 minutes.

During the aerobic and resistance exercise sessions, participants walked on a treadmill for 30–45 minutes and did circuit weight training (a form of mild resistance exercise).

Changes in sleep and performance were compared between the two exercise groups after 10 weeks.

Both exercise programs – aerobic alone and aerobic and resistance combined – resulted in improvements in sleep and performance over a 10-week period.

According to the study, however, aerobic exercise alone was more beneficial for sleep and performance than combined exercise.

The study is presented on ACNAP Essentials4U, a scientific platform of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC).

Atef said, “Our recommendation for heart bypass patients who experience sleep problems and problems with normal movement is to do only aerobic exercises.” (IANS)
