Jaipur. Successful surgery has been done on a 13-year-old child at Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital and Research Center using hot dog technique. Orthoonco Surgeon Dr. Praveen Gupta, Plastic Reconstructive Surgeon Dr. Umesh Bansal and Dr. Saurabh Rawat. In this surgery, success has been achieved in making the bone of a 13-year-old child battling cancer free from cancer with the help of radiation, through plastic surgery to make blood flow in it. The cost of this entire surgery has come to two lakh rupees.
Dr Praveen Gupta said that in bone cancer patients, the bone is re-used after getting cancer free from the operation. The use of radiotherapy and liquid nitrogen to cure cancer is still in vogue. It takes one to two years for a re-used bone to rejoin and remains weak even after it has been joined. At the same time, by making blood flow to the cancer-free bone through this technique, it takes three to four months for this bone to join back, which after joining becomes as strong as before. The first case was done with this technique three months ago in the hospital, after its successful result, it is being used in the treatment of other patients.
Dr Saurabh Rawat told that the bone fragment of the other leg was used to make blood flow to the cancer-free bone. The bone fragment of the other leg was removed in such a way that it would not have any harmful effect; After that the piece taken was adjusted to the cancer-free bone and blood flow was made in it. Dr Umesh Bansal said that in this technique, in a few months, the patient will be able to work like a healthy person with the movement of his operated leg.
Dr Gupta said that cancer disease is increasing rapidly in children too. According to the WHO, about 3 lakh children die of cancer every year, of which more than 78,000 occur in India alone. Cases of blood cancer, brain tumour, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, sakorma and embryonal tumour, as well as bone cancer are seen in children 0 to 19 years of age. Bone cancer cases account for three to eight percent worldwide as compared to other cancers. Bone cancer cases are seen in about 400 children in the country every year. BMCHRC treats around 25 children every year for bone cancer.
