After dengue, Kanpur became the hotspot of Zika virus, so far 100 cases have been reported

After dengue in Uttar Pradesh, now the havoc of Zika virus is increasing. New cases are coming out daily. 100 Zika virus cases have been found in Kanpur alone. According to a report of the Health Department, at least 89 people, including 17 children, have been found positive for Zika virus in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur. Kanpur has become a hotspot for this mosquito-borne disease and an alert has been issued in the city. Also a massive vector control campaign has been launched by the local authorities to contain the spread.

Health teams collected samples of 525 people

To prevent infection, health teams have collected samples of 525 people. These samples have been taken from the areas where maximum infection has been found. They were living within 3 km radius of the IAF station hangar for testing. Zika virus was first detected in the year 1947. Then the disease took the form of an epidemic in Brazil. It had the biggest impact on the children. Thousands of babies were born with microcephaly when infected with the disease. It is a disease in which babies are born with an abnormally small head and an underdeveloped brain. Dr Nepal Singh, chief medical officer of Kanpur district in India’s most populous state of Uttar Pradesh, said that the Zika virus cases have increased and the health department has formed several teams to contain the spread.
