A homemaker and that too only 12th pass, but the passion to study was such that by studying at home herself, she prepared for the TV reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati 14 that she became a millionaire on the basis of her knowledge. This is the story of Kavita Chawla from Kolhapur, who has become the first crorepati of KBC 14. In a special conversation with NavbharatTimes.com, he told a lot.
Due to economic conditions, she could study only till 12th.
45-year-old Kavita, who was able to study only till 12th due to the economic conditions of the house, says, ‘I was able to study till 12th also after a lot of respect from my parents. The family members wanted to get married only after the first tenth, but I insisted that I have to study further. My teachers also persuaded my mom and dad to let me study, then they let me study further. However, after 12th, the circumstances of the house were such that I had to join hands with my mother in sewing and weaving, in which time passed. Then got married, got a son, then did not think of studying further in household responsibilities, but only a year after my marriage, KBC came in 2000 and I got a new dream. Since then I have made it my goal.
Preparing for the show while teaching my son
Kavita had made a dream of going to this show since the first season of KBC i.e. in the year 2000. According to the poem, ‘When KBC started in the year 2000, when I saw it for the first time, it was in my mind that I also have to go in it. People were getting name, fame, respect in this show on the strength of knowledge, so it was my dream that I also go in it. Since then I have been trying, preparing. I got the call for the first time in 2012 but then I had a phone with a small keyboard, so I didn’t understand what to do, so my chance was wasted. Then, last year I reached the fastest finger first, but could not reach the hot seat, but this time that dream has come true. It was my dream to become the first woman millionaire of Kolhapur and it came true. How did you prepare for this show? On this she said, ‘I used to teach my son myself. I myself taught her from KG to VIII and then used to study her as well. I was sure that this knowledge would be useful to me. I used to teach him in the same way that I am teaching myself.
I don’t give up what I decide
Kavita has never been disappointed in these 22 years that she could not reach the hot seat despite so many years of effort? On asking this, she immediately says, I am very stubborn since childhood. Whatever I decide to do, I do not give up. I also teach my son that if you want to do something in life, then keep going. If you give up, the hard work that you put in earlier will also be wasted. I will say the same thing to those women who think that now that we are married, have children, what can we do now? Where will you get the time? So you have to take time. You have to work hard for your dream, then dreams do come true.
Many times at home imitated becoming a millionaire
When asked about the most memorable moment during KBC, Kavita says, ‘When Amitabh Bachchan sahib got down from his chair and shouted 10 million, that moment was the most memorable for me. Earlier, when I used to see her on TV saying this to others, she used to watch the celebrations, I wondered when this moment would come in my life. I have cried many times with those winners, I used to feel that I have become a millionaire. Many times I myself used to talk to Amitabh Bachchan sir and thought that I am in KBC. What will you do with this one crore rupees? To this she says, ‘I will teach my son Vivek. I did not study much, but I will teach him, so that he will illuminate the name of our country in the future. She has done BCA and wants to study abroad further, so after making her dream come true now I will make her dream come true.
