New Delhi: To achieve something big, big challenges have to be overcome. Something has to be done that has never happened before. Something that surpasses all expectations and possibilities. Just something similar has to be done by the Indian cricket team, if it has to become the World Test Champion. The world’s number one ranked team will have to break all the old records to win the title. Will have to do what has never happened at The Oval, which has never happened in Test cricket.
In the final being played at the Oval, Australia set a target of 444 runs to win against India. The Australian team, which scored 469 runs in the first innings, declared the second innings by scoring 270 runs. The Indian team was piled on 296 runs in the first innings and in such a situation such a big target came in front of them.
Will Team India make a world record?
Now the question is, will the Indian team be able to do this? Has there ever been such a big chase in Test cricket? The answer is no. Till date in the history of Test cricket, not a single team has been able to achieve such a big target. The biggest successful run chase in Test cricket happened 20 years ago. Then West Indies won by scoring 418 runs. By the way, that victory came against Australia only.
Team India has also achieved the target of more than four hundred once. India won the Test against West Indies in 1976 by scoring 406 runs. That means India will have to make a record.
100 years of history will have to be changed
This challenge in front of Team India is not difficult only because of this record. There is another reason for this and this is the ground of Oval. The history of Oval which is more than 100 years old shows that there has never been such a big target chase here. It is a far cry from 400. Even a target of 270 has never been chased here.
Till date, the biggest successful run chase at the Oval is 263 runs and it was achieved by England against Australia only. But this did not happen 3-4 years or 10-15 years ago, but 121 years ago. England achieved this target in 1902 and since then the record has stood. That means Team India will have to make this record as well.
