Mumbai. There is a common saying in cricket catch the catch win the match but when a team drops the catch of the leading batsman of the opposition team in a crucial knockout match then it has to face defeat. This is what happened with UP Warriors against Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) eliminator.
UP Warriors’ English player Sophie Ecclestone dropped a simple catch of Mumbai’s Natalie Shiver Brunt off Rajeshwari Gaikwad when she was on just six runs. Taking advantage of this lifeline, Shiv Brunt hit an unbeaten 72 off 38 balls with the help of nine fours and two sixes, helping Mumbai score a strong score of 182 for four in 20 overs. Mumbai bowled out the Warriors for 110 in 17.4 overs to seal a comfortable victory and oust UP. With this win, the Mumbai team reached the final against Delhi Capitals.
UP captain Alyssa Healy said after the match, “If we hadn’t dropped Shiver’s catch, maybe the match would have been in our favor.” We showed confidence in our bowling. I will not comment much on that. The catch Anjali took was looking perfect in the real time video. Struggling has been our biggest weapon in this tournament. No one was looking at UP Warriors as a strong team. I am very happy with the way we played the game. Two good teams have reached the finals. We have many talented players in our team, Kiran is one of them.
