Budapest, (HS). Indian athlete Parul Chowdhary finished 11th in the 3000m steeplechase final at the World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest, Hungary on Monday.
However, Parul broke the national record by clocking 9:15.31 at the World Athletics Championships. Parul qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 by achieving the national record.
Brunei athlete Winfred Mutile Yawi won the gold medal with a time of 8:54.29, Beatrice Chepkoech of Kenya won the silver medal with her season’s best of 8:58.98, and another Kenyan, Faith Cherotich, with her time of 9:00.69. Won bronze medal with personal best marks.
In the 200m split, Parul was leading the steeplechase but lost momentum and finished 11th. However, going into the 2900m split, the Indian athlete was ranked 13th, taking a two-place lead in the last 100m split.
On the other hand, the Indian men’s 4×400m relay team finished fifth in the 4×400m relay race final at the World Athletics Championships 2023.
The Indian team of Muhammad Anas Yahiya, Amoj Jacob, Muhammad Ajmal and Rajesh Ramesh clocked 2:59.92.
The USA team of Quincy Hall, Vernon Norwood, Justin Robinson and Rae Benjamin won the gold medal with a time of 2:57.31. France won the silver medal with 2:58.45 while Great Britain took the bronze with 2:58.71.
