New Delhi: After the announcement of five teams of BCCI’s Women’s Premier League (WPL), women cricketers from abroad have termed it as a historic day. She says that this will have a huge impact on women’s sports all over the world. The BCCI earned Rs 4669.99 crore from the sale of the first five WPL teams, while Adani Sportsline spent the most for the Ahmedabad team at Rs 1289 crore.
Former England cricketer-turned-commentator Isha Guha wrote, “Historic day for the women’s game.” Former Australian cricketer Lisa Sthalekar wrote, ‘This is definitely historic. The women’s game is already breaking records with not even a single match being played. That’s pretty exciting. Congratulations to BCCI and everyone involved.
IPL team owners Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals made successful bids for Rs 912.99 crore, Rs 901 crore and Rs 810 crore respectively. Australia’s fast bowler Megan Shutt wrote that it is fantastic not only for women’s cricket but for women’s sports around the world. Frances McKay of New Zealand wrote, ‘A huge day for women’s cricket. Look at this number. Can’t wait for the Women’s Premier League.
England fast bowler Kate Cross has a message for those who have undermined the women’s game in the past. “BCI has recognized something special and this will give women cricketers the platform they deserve,” she said. South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp, England’s Danielle Watt and Australian Holly Furling have said the women’s league will be ‘life-changing’.
