The Indian cricket team has reached South Africa tour amid controversies. A day before leaving for this tour, the statement made by Team India’s Test captain Virat Kohli on the issue of being removed from the ODI captaincy caused a ruckus in Indian cricket.
Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar has criticized the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, terming the entire episode as unfortunate. Former selector Vengsarkar said in an interview to Khaleej Times, ‘Sourav Ganguly should not have come and made a statement at the place of the selection committee. Ganguly is the President of BCCI. The Chief Selector should come and give a statement on the dispute of selection and captaincy in the team.
Kohli (Kohli vs BCCI) had said during the press conference that while leaving the captaincy of the T20 team, he had made it clear to the selectors that he wanted to captain the ODI and Test teams in the future. But after discussing the selection of the Test team for the South Africa tour, he was informed that he would no longer be the captain of the ODI team.
‘Kohli must have been hurt by this entire episode’
Apart from this, Ganguly had given a statement that he had asked Kohli not to give up the T20 captaincy. But Kohli rubbished Ganguly’s claim and said that no one discussed it with him.
Vengsarkar said, ‘I think it is very unfortunate. The cricket board should have handled this entire episode better. Virat must have been hurt by this whole episode. Virat has made a significant contribution to Indian cricket. This kind of behavior of the board will definitely hurt them.
Team India will play 3 Tests and 3 ODIs in South Africa
Under the captaincy of Kohli, Team India is currently on South African tour, where they have to play a 3-match Test series. The first Test match of the series will be played at Centurion from December 26. India will not be able to get the services of opener Rohit Sharma in the Test series. Rohit is out of the Test series due to injury. After this a 3-match ODI series will be played.
