London . Indian skipper Virat Kohli has heaped praise on Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, saying he wants the two players to know that he is proud of them. Bumrah and Shami shared an 89-run partnership for the ninth wicket in the second Test against England, on the basis of which India set England a target of 272 runs. However, England’s team could not achieve this target and had to face defeat by 151 runs.
After the match, Kohli said, “I want to commend Bumrah and Shami for what they did. It is challenging to play in such conditions for bowlers who do not bat much. He contributed when the team needed it the most.
“When we were the most successful in Test cricket for the last one-and-a-half years, our lower order contributed a lot. The batting coach has worked very hard with the players. Most importantly, when they go out to bat, they are confident that they can score runs for the team. I think this trust was not there before.
Asked whether the win at Lord’s is similar to 2014, the skipper said, “Last time we won here, I was a part of this match and played under Mahendra Singh Dhoni as a player. He was very special and Ishant Sharma bowled very well.
Kohli said, but we got this victory in 60 overs. It’s very special and when someone like Mohammad Siraj who is playing at Lord’s for the first time and the way he bowled it was excellent.
The captain made it clear that the Indian team will play well in the remaining three Test matches as well.
Kohli said, there are still three more matches left. After this match, we will not sit back and take it easy. We will go to play even faster in the next matches. (IANS)
