New Delhi: The IPL 2023 season is over and the players have returned to international cricket with their respective teams. Some of these players are part of the ODI series being played between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. Sri Lanka had to face defeat in the first match of the series, but in the second match itself, the team made a strong comeback and washed Afghanistan unilaterally. Wanindu Hasaranga, who was failing in the IPL, played an important role in his victory.
The second ODI of the 3-match series was played between the two teams on Sunday, June 4 in Hambantota, Sri Lanka. Host Sri Lanka won this match by a huge margin of 132 runs. In this way, Sri Lanka achieved a 1-1 draw in this series.
First beaten with bat, then trapped in spin
Batting first, Sri Lanka had scored 323 runs losing 6 wickets. For him, Kusal Mendis scored the highest 78 runs, while Dimuth Karunaratne (52) also scored a half-century. In the lower order, Dhananjaya D’Silva (29 not out) and Wanindu Hasaranga (29 not out, 12 balls) also scored important runs quickly and took the team to this big score.
After this, the Sri Lankan bowlers trapped the Afghan batsmen in their trap and piled the whole team for just 191 runs. Like batting, the power of Dhananjaya and Hasaranga was also seen in bowling. Both the bowlers took 3-3 wickets in their names and gave this big victory to the team. Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi scored 57 and Ibrahim Zadran scored 54 runs for Afghanistan.
remained ineffective in IPL 2023
Dhananjaya D’Silva was not a part of IPL but Vanindu Hasaranga was with Royal Challengers Bangalore. Leg-spin all-rounder Hasaranga, who performed amazingly in the last season, was completely ineffective this time. He took only 9 wickets and also got hit hard. For this reason, the team also dropped him for a few matches. His poor form also affected RCB and the team could not even reach the playoffs. Now returning with his national team, Hasaranga is also seen returning to form.
