Virat’s decision created a stir
Kohli created a stir after leaving the captaincy of the Indian Test cricket team after the series loss against South Africa. Kohli was made the captain of the Test team in 2014 when Dhoni announced his decision to step down in the middle of the series against Australia.
Kohli’s announcement came a day after India lost the Test series 1-2 to South Africa. Under Kohli’s leadership, the Indian team reached the top of the world rankings and it was under his captaincy that the team won a memorable series in Australia. The 33-year-old Kohli had recently relinquished the T20 captaincy and was later removed from the ODI captaincy by the BCCI.
‘Honestly worked, now’s the time to stop’
To everyone’s surprise, Kohli wrote in a statement posted on Twitter, ‘Everything has to stop at some stage and it is now time for me to stop as India’s Test captain. There have been many ups and downs throughout this journey, but never lacking in effort or confidence. I did my work sincerely and left no stone unturned.
