In such a situation, the discussion has now intensified whether Virat and Rohit have been dropped from the T20 team and the team management is trying to take this format in a new direction. The BCCI has not given any clarification on why these two players have been kept out of the T20 team.
BCCI gave reasons for Akshar and Rahul being out of the team
On one hand, BCCI issues a statement regarding Akshar Patel and KL Rahul explaining why they have been kept out of the team against New Zealand. Actually Akshar and Rahul are not available for this series due to family reasons and BCCI has informed about this. Apart from this, the board has also said about Ravindra Jadeja that whether he is included in Team India’s squad against New Zealand will depend on his fitness.
Apart from this, the board has not given any information about Rohit and Virat as to why both of them have not been included in the T20 team. Even before this, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were not part of the T20 team against Sri Lanka. However, in that series Rohit Sharma was recovering from a finger injury while Kohli was given a break after the Bangladesh tour.
What does Rohit Sharma say?
Before the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma had said that he has no plans to leave the T20 format right now. He had said, ‘It is not possible to play cricket continuously and players need breaks from time to time. I am also included in this. We have three T20 matches against New Zealand. We will see what happens but I have not made up my mind to leave T20.
In such a situation, it cannot be denied that the BCCI no longer sees the place of these two senior players in the T20 format.
