New Delhi. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri on Monday lauded the national team and captain Virat Kohli for embracing Test cricket and being the ambassador of the format over the past five years. Team India topped the ICC rankings after beating New Zealand after a 372-run victory over the World Test Champions in the series final in Mumbai.
“I think if any team has been an ambassador for a Test match in the last five years, it is the Indian cricket team. Virat worships Test match cricket, as do most teams.
Shastri, who coached India for four years, told well-known author Jeffrey Archer on his podcast, “If you ask anyone in the team, 99 percent of them will say they like Test match cricket. Hence, what India has done in the last five years is to remain as the No. 1 team in the world at the end of every year.
Shastri listed the team’s achievements in Tests during his reign as head coach. He talked about the one-sided World Test Championship (WTC) final defeat against New Zealand. This year saw a return in India’s fight to win the series against England as well as two series in Australia.
“We may have lost the WTC final unilaterally against New Zealand, but we have dominated the format for the last five years,” Shastri said. (IANS)
