Vinesh’s 2017 tweet, tears in eyes… understand the allegations of female wrestler against Brij Bhushan

New Delhi: The ongoing protest against Wrestling Federation of India President Brij Bhushan Singh is only gaining momentum. India’s star female wrestler Vinesh Phogat has made a sensational allegation of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan. Vinesh weeps and accuses Brij Bhushan that she was so disheartened by the harassment that at one point she had made up her mind to commit suicide. Vinesh does not stop here, she has also accused Union Vice President Darshan Lal of exploitation.

Along with Vinesh, wrestlers like Sakshi Malik, ‘Anshu Malik, Bajrang Punia and Ravi Dahiya are protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. All these wrestlers demand that the Wrestling Federation of India should be dissolved and Brij Bhushan Singh should be removed from the post of president.

This is not the first time that Vinesh Phogat has questioned the Wrestling Federation. In the year 2017 too, Vinesh created a stir by tweeting against the management. Vinesh had highlighted many shortcomings of the game in his tweet.

Vinesh wrote in his tweet that, ‘I will leave no stone unturned to correct my own mistakes but at the same time our system will also have to correct its mistakes. Although in this tweet, Vinesh did not say that the system means Wrestling Federation of India, Sports Ministry or Sports Authority of India.

This case was in the year 2017 when the Indian wrestling team was in Paris for the world champion. During this time wrestlers trained at a local club in the Boulevard de Bercy borough, which was located on the border between France and Germany rather than in Paris.

That’s all, Indian wrestlers practiced with junior French wrestlers. On this, the WFI blamed the local organizers and the Indian team for not providing good facilities for their preparations.

In that tweet, Vinesh had also raised the demand for a foreign coach. Vinesh had said that, ‘There is a dire need of a foreign coach for our national team. A lot has been said and written on this issue to no avail. I think we will have to train in India in future as well.

He said that after the Rio Olympics, there were many talks that the system would be changed, but what happened is known to all. If what happened in Paris is not rectified then such incidents will keep happening again and again. We believe that we take responsibility for not winning, but the system also has to come forward, players and good facilities have to be provided.
