Under 19 Asia Cup: India will face Bangladesh in the semi-finals, Pakistan will clash with Sri Lanka

The final group match of the Under-19 Asia Cup between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on Tuesday was called off after two officials tested positive for COVID-19. India will now face Bangladesh in the semi-finals. The semi-finals will be played on Thursday.

32.4 overs had already been played in Group B’s final match when the match was called off after two officials tested positive for COVID-19. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) said in a statement, “The Asian Cricket Council and the Emirates Cricket Board confirm that the final Group B match of the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup played today has been cancelled. It is confirmed that two officers have been found COVID-19 positive. The officials are safe now and are being treated as per the rules of the tournament. All the officials associated with this match are being tested and they will be in isolation till the result is out.

Electing to bat after losing the toss, Bangladesh scored 130 for four in 32.4 overs when the match was abandoned. Ariful Islam was playing 19 while Mohammad Faheem was scoring 27 runs.

Not only Virat, even these legendary batsmen could not score centuries for many innings.

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka had already qualified for the semi-finals and the group’s winner and runner-up were to be decided by this match. Bangladesh topped the group due to their better run-rate and will face India in the semi-finals on December 30. Sri Lanka will take on Pakistan in the second semi-final.

India is the most successful team of this tournament having won the title four times in 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2018. India was also the runner-up in 2016. The last tournament in 2020 took place in New Zealand.
