– Canoe Slalom Maheshwar and Kayaking Sprint in Bhopal
Khargone, (Hindustan Times). Madhya Pradesh is hosting the fifth Games India-2022 this time. Eight districts of the state are the main hosts of this big sports event. In this, apart from the big metros, there are those districts where either sport is played prominently. Three sporting events have been added to Khelo India-2022. All these three events are focused on water sports only. Sahastradhara Canoe located at Maheshwar in Khargone district is considered to be the most suitable natural site in the state for both slalom and kayaking, where water currents increase the thrill of this sport. However, only Canoe Slalom events will be held here. Kayaking events will be held at Bhoj Talab in Bhopal.
District Sports Officer Pavi Dubey said on Monday that Khelo India will start in Indore on January 30 with volleyball, basketball and table tennis. The water sports at Khelo India-2022 will have two different boat activities apart from swimming, which have become very popular over the years. This includes kayaking and canoeing. It is also known as Kayaking (Sprint) and Canoeing (Slalom) depending on their location and sport mode.
He told that Kayaking is an event played in calm or stagnant water. Which is done only by a special kind of boat with speed. This sport is done individually, while canoeing is done only in the water flowing in the fast current. Canoe slalom to be held in Maheshwar will be held in both boys and girls categories. Canoe slalom will be organized in Maheshwar on 6th and 7th February and Kayaking in Bhopal from 7th to 9th February.
Country’s traditional games also get ample opportunities in Khelo India
Khelo India 2022 aims to win as many gold medals as possible in the 2024 Olympics to be held in Paris. Along with this, one of the main objectives of Khelo India is to promote traditional sports of the country on a large scale along with modern sports. Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, and Malkhamb, the games played in our country for centuries, and the oldest Yogasana have also been included in this.
These games will be held at these places
Archery, cycling (road) fencing and kho-kho will be held in Jabalpur under Khelo India. Similarly, athletics, boxing, judo, kayaking (sprint), rowing, shooting and swimming in Bhopal, basketball, kabaddi, table tennis, tennis, wrestling and weightlifting in Indore, Malkhamb and Yogasan in Ujjain, badminton, gymnastics, hockey and There will be Gatka and Thangata in Kalaripayattu, Football (Girls) in Balaghat, Mandla and Canoe Slalom in Maheshwar.
