This logic of BCCI should not be overshadowed by Suryakumar and Ishaan, Vikram Rathore gave clarification on team selection

Thiruvananthapuram: Batting coach Vikram Rathore has now given clarification for not giving playing XI place to Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Rathour believes that in-form Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav understand that they will have to wait for their turn in the ODI format. Despite their stellar performances in T20 Internationals in recent years, both the players were left out of the squad for the first two ODIs of the ongoing three-match series against Sri Lanka, much to the surprise of sports fans and some former players.

Rathore said, ‘He has not been forced to sit out, I mean other players are also doing well. As a player, he also understands that and he also has to wait for his chance and he is also preparing for it, he works hard and whenever the opportunity comes, he does well and stands his ground ‘

While Suryakumar is the world’s number one T20 batsman and is enjoying his fine form in the shorter format of the game, Ishaan scored his ODI double century in Bangladesh ahead of the Sri Lanka series.

Asked if Ishaan could be asked to bat in the middle order, Rathour said, “At the moment, he is being picked as an opener but as a batting unit we are very flexible and if someone like Ishaan can be called in the middle order.” If we need to try, we will have to do so. Although at this time he is being seen only as an opener.

Talking about Suryakumar, Rathour said, “He’s got great potential, he’s been in good form, it’s been great to have him in the reserves and hopefully when the time comes, he’ll take that responsibility and do well for the team.” Will do It is great to have such a great player in the team.

Regarding the ODI World Cup to be held this year, the batting coach said, “20 matches are enough to decide the core group of players.” He said, ‘I think 20 matches is enough to sort out the core group that we want. As a team management, we understand which players we have to pick. If there is clarity about it then I think 20 matches are enough to work on these certain things.
