The opening 40 minutes of the day turned out to be quite a dramatic one with a close fight between the ball and the bat. Labuschagne pacer James Anderson completed the sixth century of his Test career and the first Ashes by sending the ball across the boundary to the third man.
Shortly after, he was caught off the ball of Ollie Robinson but got life after the no-ball was confirmed in the replays. He, however, failed to capitalize on it and was dismissed lbw in the 400th minute of his innings off the same bowler. Labuschagne completed 2000 runs in Tests during this period. He accomplished this feat in just 34 innings.
Don Bradman (22), George Headley (32), Herbert Sutcliffe (33) and Mike Hussey (33) have achieved this feat in fewer than these innings. Labuschagne has now scored hundreds in three consecutive day-night Tests at the Adelaide Oval, averaging around 100. Australia are playing their ninth day-night match, and have won all their last eight matches at home.
